Colonel ANGELA M. TAPIA

Col. Angela M. Tapia is the 19th Commander, I.G. Brown Training and   Education Center, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee. She is responsible for the Air National Guard’s primary force development center and more than 4,000 in-resident students annually from the Total Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and partner nation armed forces.  She plans, organizes and directs the overall operation of the center while providing leadership for an average of 13 Enlisted Professional Military Education courses and 30 Professional Continuing Education session per year.  She is also responsible for the Air National Guard’s premiere $7 million television production/broadcast center.

Col. Tapia is a graduate of the Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson ANGB, Tennessee. She served in the New Mexico ANG as an enlisted Airman for more than 11 years before earning a commission in 2005. She was instrumental in establishing the New Mexico National Guard’s State Partnership Program with Costa Rica as well as standing up the first Total Force Personnel Recovery Intelligence Formal Training Unit (PR-IFTU) at the 150th Special Operations Wing. As a Maintenance Officer, Col. Tapia deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to Balad Air Base, Iraq.

Prior to her current assignment, the colonel was dual hatted as the Commander, Headquarters Air National Guard Readiness Center Detachment 41 and Air National Guard Advisor to the Commander of Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center, Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado
