LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN F. MUTNANSKY, JR.
Lt. Col. John F. Mutnansky, Jr. is the Deputy Commander of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee. He is responsible for delivering enlisted professional military education and professional continuing education to more than 4,000 in-resident, Total Force service members per year and typically 50,000 more via blended or distributed learning methodologies. He is also the Mission Support Division Chief - ensuring communications, personnel, and campus operations support for staff and students.
Lt. Col. Mutnansky began his military career in July 1993, enlisting in the United States Air Force as an aircraft structural maintenance technician. He separated from active duty in 1994 to finish his bachelor’s degree in aviation safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In 2004, he re-entered military service by joining the 181st Fighter Wing as a non-destructive inspector. In 2008, he earned his commission as a second lieutenant from the Academy of Military Science. He was assigned to the 181st Intelligence Squadron as a mission operations commander overseeing intelligence operations during Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served as the security forces commander, and wing inspector general. Prior to his current position, the lieutenant colonel served as the deputy commander of the 86th Mission Support Group, 86th Airlift Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He has had multiple deployments to include Iraq and Afghanistan.
