New ANG command chief makes first address, highlights professional development

McGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. --  For his first official visit, the new Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Air National Guard traveled to the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center here to address students and faculty, Feb. 14.

Chief Master Sgt. James Hotaling, only days after assuming his new role, served as guest speaker during a graduation ceremony for 314 Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Airman Leadership School graduates. He passed on words of advice and acknowledged their achievement as a significant milestone in their military careers.

"This is the moment of truth for you, the proving of your stripes, and the solidifying of your leadership capabilities," said Hotaling.

He reminded students that they are part of a proud heritage of warriors and encouraged them to carry on the legacy founded by NCOs before them.

"As you depart this beautiful campus, I want you to walk away with a greater sense of who you are as a member of this profession of arms," said Hotaling. "Knowing who you are requires three key things.You need to understand the past, you need to recognize your place in the present, and you need to have clear vision for where you're going in the future."

The chief challenged students to be daily examples of what the NCO corps represents and to continue in their paths of professional development.

"Development is the cornerstone of our warrior ethos; it is a lifelong pursuit and I challenge you to make it a part of your daily lives," he said.

During his visit, Hotaling also met with leaders on base and toured campus facilities.

Hotaling is the eleventh ANG Command Chief, and represents the highest level of enlisted leadership in the Air National Guard. He is responsible for matters influencing the health, morale and welfare of assigned enlisted personnel and their families.
