A bar unsurpassed
Faded gold-painted bars and purple letters were sidewalk markers that the Air National Guard’s Academy of Military Science officer candidates once used for daily formations at the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center in East Tennessee. AMS commissioned more than 14,600 officers in the six-week program between 1971 and 2009 before moving to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
